Labelled vs Direct-Printed TCG Bags: Which Should You Choose?

19 October 2026 · POP 1 Prints

POP 1 Prints mystery slab bag designs beside graded card holders and a roll of printed labels.

You’ve got the cards, the branding and an idea for your next reveal. Now comes the packaging decision: labelled or direct-printed?

Both can give your mystery slabs, packs or single cards a recognisable look. The right choice depends on how many bags you need, how you want them to look and whether you’re still testing your range.

What’s the difference?

Labelled bags use a printed label applied to the pouch. The label carries your artwork, while the pouch provides the bag itself.

Direct-printed bags have your artwork printed directly onto the pouch, rather than applied as a separate label.

Here’s how POP1’s custom options compare:

Starting a new mystery range? Consider labelled bags

For a Pokémon shop launching its first mystery slab range or a Whatnot seller trying a new idea, committing to thousands of bags might be too much.

A smaller labelled run lets you see how the design works in practice. Is your shop name readable on camera? Does the wording clearly distinguish your mystery slabs from your packs? Do customers recognise your branding?

It also gives you room to change direction before your next order.

Have a design you’ll keep using? Consider direct print

Direct-printed bags are worth considering when you have a larger quantity planned and a design you’re happy to use across that run.

Before ordering, think about how long the artwork will remain useful. A permanent shop design may suit several releases. Artwork featuring a particular event, date or price could have a shorter life.

For a design you can use across different releases, incorporate a white box where you can write the price, TCG type or other details without changing the printed artwork.

Compare the complete cost

Look at the total order cost as well as the price per bag.

A larger order only makes sense if you can use and store it. Consider how many units you expect to sell, whether your branding is settled and how much budget you want tied up in packaging.

For smaller ranges, a lower starting quantity may matter more than achieving the lowest possible unit price.

Prepare artwork for the method you choose

The same design idea can work across both methods, but the production files need to match the selected product.

Download the correct artwork template before preparing your file. Follow its bleed and safe-area markings, and keep important wording, logos and QR codes clear of restricted areas.

Moving from labelled to direct print? Check the new template rather than uploading the previous file unchanged.

Not ready for custom artwork?

You can also browse ready-designed TCG packaging. Check each listing for its available print method, quantities and optional customisation.

Choose around your next launch

Choose labelled when a smaller starting quantity and flexibility suit your plans.

Consider direct print when you’re ready for a larger run with artwork you want to keep using.

Either way, start with the right bag size, clear product wording and a design your customers can recognise.
